Travel: San Francisco
Of one thing I was absolutely certain, that on my travels throughout America I would spend copious amounts of unnecessary money on clothes. This was a given. What I could not have prepared myself for was the bizarre climate I faced upon my arrival in San Francisco.
Of course at the moment it is summer in the USA, a scorching 30 degrees minimum in most places we visited. Naturally I stocked up on bikinis, denim shorts, singlets and summer dresses from your standard H&M’s, Zaras, forever 21 etc. All of which came in incredibly handy, that was, until I reached San Francisco where the temperature dropped to a chilly 15 degrees and chillier again in the evenings.
I had to stare at the items in my suitcase long and hard before getting dressed that first morning. denim shorts and a singlet where just not going to suffice. I quickly remembered I picked up a black oversized jacket at H&M San Diego for $45, what a knight in shining armour that turned out to be. I paired it with one of my striped Summer dresses I had purchased in LA and my new Nike kicks, an absolute necessity in SF. San Franciscans love to walk as taxis are quite pricey and its rare to flag one down. So a piece of advice to travellers heading to the windy city, always have a jacket and sneakers. You will walk everywhere and chances are it’s going to be cold!!
